The British Flair Open Air Proms Concert is a special highlight with cult status. This year "The Hamburg Festival Orchestra", conducted by Russell N. Harris, is playing. In the tradition of the "Last Night of the Proms" concert in London's Royal Albert Hall, promenaders can picnic under the stars to the music of the great composers and also join in the singing. When is the concert? The concert is probably on Saturday, 10 August 2019 at 20:30. Doors open: 19:00 Curtain up: 20:30 Where is the concert? The concert is in the grounds of the Hamburger Polo Club at Jenischstraße 26, 22609 Hamburg (Klein Flottbek) - the British Flair showground. Access via Jenischstraße 26 only. What is the British Flair Open Air Proms Concert? The concert is called a proms concert because the audience can promenade during the concert - stroll around, in other words. The most famous concert series of this kind is the BBC Proms, started by Henry Wood in 1895. The organist and composer conducted the concerts every year until his death in 1944. The Last Night of the Proms in the Albert Hall in London is the final concert in the series. It is a unique event and attracts a large, enthusiastic audience every year that is encouraged to join in and sing. But why go to London when you can experience more than 100 years of classical tradition under the stars here in Hamburg? Who is playing and what is on the programme? The Hamburg Festival Orchestra conducted by Russell N. Harris will be playing a varied programme of classical pieces and favourites from musicals and films. Composers include Gioachino Rossini, Georges Bizet, John Williams, Giacomo Puccini, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Hubert Parry, Edward Elgar and many others. And of course it'll be the audience's turn when it's time to join in lots of the traditional Last Night numbers.
